Diabetes: A Growing Problem in the United States

Cesta has a great data visualization and Statisticians team. This week we explored publicly available data from the CDC website to showcase our expertise in different Analytical tools, namely SAS, R & Tableau.

Here is what we found concerning mortality due to Diabetes amongst almost equal similar populous states:

Georgia and Michigan have a relatively stable trend in diabetes mellitus mortality, with some fluctuations.

North Carolina has a similar tendency but with slightly lower mortality rates.

Ohio has a more volatile tendency, with higher mortality rates than the other states.

It is important to note that these trends are based on the data provided, and additional factors such as population size, testing protocols, and public health interventions should be considered to understand the trends comprehensively.

Here are some of the possible reasons for the fluctuations in diabetes mellitus mortality:

Changes in population demographics: The age and racial/ethnic composition of the population can affect the prevalence of Diabetes and diabetes-related mortality. For example, the aging population is at a higher risk for Diabetes, and racial/ethnic minorities are more likely to have Diabetes than white people.

Changes in diagnostic practices: The use of new diagnostic tests and the increased awareness of Diabetes may lead to more people being diagnosed with Diabetes, which could, in turn, lead to an increase in diabetes-related mortality.

Changes in treatment practices: The use of new treatments for Diabetes, such as insulin and oral medications, may help to improve diabetes control and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications. However, these treatments can also have side effects that may increase the risk of death.

Changes in public health interventions: Public health interventions, such as education and awareness campaigns, can help to prevent Diabetes and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications. However, these interventions can be expensive and challenging to implement.

Overall, the trends in Diabetes mellitus mortality are complex and multifaceted. There is no single explanation for the fluctuations in mortality rates, and additional research is needed to understand better the factors contributing to these trends.
